Three days late but Chloe made it in at the very last hour of March 12th! 6 pounds 9 ounces and 19 inches long. Mom and baby are doing well and will be heading home tonight. Danny says “She’s really cute!” A good observation I’d say.

Buffy Saint Marie

Buffy Saint Marie
May 1999 – December 2006

Today is a sad one. Buffy had gotten so sick we didn’t have a choice but to put her to sleep. She’d had a very hard month and it just got to be too much for her to take. Her breathing was labored, her thyroid was out of wack and today she couldn’t stand up on her own. Buffy spent the last 2 days at the vet as she was at her worst on Friday.

To spare all the details, just know that she was very sick and it was her time. I feel terrible about it, this morning was really awful. She was only 7 1/2, I know she did her best to stay with us. I looked into her eyes today and new she just wasn’t the same, the light in her eyes had gone. She hasn’t been the same Buffy in awhile. I feel numb about it now, it’s hard to take in that she isn’t here anymore.

For a long time I debated on being with her to the very end, to be with her if we had to help her go. I couldn’t do it thought. I thought I would be able to, but it was too overwhelming. I couldn’t even put words into the right order. She never liked to be alone and I felt like I should be right there when she went to sleep for the last time. Her leaving has so much pain and it was just beyond me to actually see her go.

But this is really just the negative, so let’s move on to what she really was. Buffy loved life and every single person she met. A real people pup she loved attention, to give and receive and just being with others. Simply hanging out was a good time for her. Her existence was as pure as you can get. No hate, no judgment. just love. Sure she had some annoying tendencies (loved a hand out, could raid a garbage can in quick order if you’re not looking and fancied a good sock or two), but who doesn’t? A soul from a saint and the personality of an angel.

The time since we got her when she was 8 weeks old to this very day was a joy with her. We will all miss you Buffy, from the bottom of my heart thank you for being with us. I hope you can now rest and some time down the line, I expect to see you on the other side. Thank you Buffy.

Love Always,
Nick

Buffy is on the injured reserve list

So I got home late last night, I’m tired and not feeling well so I pretty much went straight to bed. Not long after that Mom went downstairs for something (it’s like 3 am) and for some retarded reason the dog followed her.

Except she busted her ass down the stairs. She’s done it before, but she kinda slides down the last 6 steps or so and hits the bottom running. This time it sounded like she ate it. A loud thump at the end. She ended up splitting the bottom of her left paw open and mom had to take her to the vet because it wouldn’t stop bleeding. So blood on the carpet that looks like Dad got all of it out but now she has her foot bandaged. She looks pretty sad about it and I think she’s embarassed too. So she kinda hobbles around now and when mom sat down to talk to her today buffy picked up her bum foot and held it out for mom to hold. Yeah she’s retarded, but she’s cute too. I’m going to take a picture when the battery is done charging.

In brighter news, a fellow at work that should have been fired months ago for being a general ass and a complete waste of space was fired this week. Happened on my day off but he was on his last warning, made the wrong move on blowing up at like the WORST person in the department and was gone 2 hours later. My entire department’s morale is up!

Since I changed my schedule to Wed-Sat I’ve been a sort of nomad when it comes to where I sit on certain days because of lack of space. But now with the Waste of Space gone, I get his desk. Work ruled this week.

West Side!

My sister and nephew are visiting from CA. Their 3 week visit started last week and it’s been an interesting week so far. Having a 2 year old in the house has made things much more lively around here. Even the dog seems extra alert.

So 2 year olds are interesting little beings. It’s like the purest form of a human being. They don’t really know anything, simple things are exciting, talking is used but rarely understandable. There is a very smart man just waiting to grow up in Danny.

He loves to swim, except he doesn’t know how to. He’ll jump face first, wiggle a bit and someone will pull him above the water so he can breath. Had to remind him a few times to close his mouth when he jumps in. You do things for so long you don’t ever remember learning the seemingly obvious stuff.

Dealing with a 2 year old also brings out the authority in you. Not just keeping him from hurting himself (jumping down stairs, the dog knocking him over, running into furniture, choking on food because he tries to put too much into his mouth), but in hostage like negotiation. Danny likes to think everything is his “that’s mine” and is very impatient. I was an impatint bastard when I was a kid, took along time to improve that, so I can relate to that one easily. It’s like if he wants something, like juice, when he should be eating you have to say he can have juice if he takes another bite of food. Take that scenario and apply it to just about anything. A complex web of negotiation, vibs and bait and switches. And don’t you dare say bedtime. That’s offensive. I totally relate to that one though. I’ve been a night owl since I was born so that must be genetic. Bedtime was a very offensive word to me when I was young.

He does a lot of funny stuff too, but I’ll save that for another post. I need to take more pictures too, I’ll upload those to flickr and let you know it’s up right here.

And another thing

In a terrific attempt at bringing up stuff for no good reason, mom yelled at me today for having too many remotes for the downstairs TV (TV, VCR, DVD, Reciever). I told her we can get one of those fancy remotes that controls everything.

If she thinks I’m going to pay for it….she’s thinking the wrong thing.
